2006 Flag Dedication & Pep Rally
Knob Noster High School students welcomed returning alumni with a standing ovation during the 2006 Homecoming pep assembly at which the new school flag was dedicated.
Created in the 1960s, the original school flag was destroyed or misplaced over the years. Knob Noster alumni, through KNAA.org, decided to replace the flag and present it as a gift back to the high school. Knob Noster alumna Melissa Morehead (Phillips, 1976) provided the materials and sewed the new 5 foot x 8 foot flag based on the design originally submitted in 1965 by Ron Harmon from the class of 1968. Both Morehead and Harmon were on hand to unveil the new flag, as were nearly 50 alumni representing classes ranging from 1951 through 2006.
According to Harmon's original explanation of his design, the three components of the flag's crest represent the fine arts and humanities, athletic achievement, and knowledge. The crest is unified by the placement of the laurel branches and signifies unity within the school. A panther, KNHS's mascot, stands on top, symbolizing its watchfulness and protection of the entire crest.
